TRIBUTE PAID TO
PADMASHRI SIVANTHI ADITYAN
Padmashri Sivanthi Adityan, media baron running Tamil newspapers Dina Thanthi and Maalai Malar, who was admitted to Teynampet Apollo hospitals for geriatric complications, died on 19th April,2013,Friday evening.According to hospital sources, Adityan,  77, was admitted a month ago to the main Apollo Hospitals unit and was later shifted to the specialty hospital in Teynampet, where he breathed his last on Friday.He had developed complications to the brain and respiratory problems, doctors said. He was on ventilator support for some time.
The Union government conferred Padmashri on the multi-faceted philanthropist  in 2008 in recognition of his distinguished service in the field of literature and education. He was the second son of late S. P. Adithanar, founder of Dina Thanthi.Adityan, an avid sports personality, had held several high posts including president of the Indian Olympic Association. He was also the past vice president, Olympic Council of Asia.He was holding the posts of  president of Tamil Nadu Olympic Association and Volleyball Federation of India. He was also an honorary secretary of the prestigious Chennai Rifle Club.An ardent volleyball fan, Sivanthi nurtured several young talents from southern districts of Tamil Nadu.It may be noted that chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and senior political leaders recently visited the hospital and enquired about his health.
