N.P RAJENDRAN
IS NEW PRESS ACADEMY CHAIRMAN
Deputy Editor of Mathrubhumi N P Rajendran has been appointed an the new chairman of Kerala Press Academy. The previous chairman S R Sakthidaran had quit his post. Sakthidaran was appointed by the previous LDF Government.The Press Academy is a joint venture of the Government of Kerala, Kerala Union of Working Journalists and Indian Newspaper Society.
He had prepared numerous investigative reports which won him several awards. Kerala Press Academy's V.Karunakaran Nambiar Memorial Award for Best Political Report in 1988, the same award for Best Developmental Report in 1992, Science Journalism award instituted by Scientific Department of the Government of Kerala, award for the Best Journalist instituted by C. H. Muhammed Koya foundation, Coimbatore in 1992, Jaijee Peter Foundation award for Best Journalistic Contribution in 1998 and Vajrasoochi award for Best Journalist in 2000, K Balakrishnan award in 2010 are some of the awards won. N P Rajendran was selected for the first award instituted by India Press Club of North America to honour Malayali journalists of Kerala, considering his overall contribution to Malayalam journalism. His book \'Pathram dharmam niyamam\' was selected for the Pavanan Puraskaaram as the best book on journalism published in Malayalam between 2001 and 2011.
Rajendran attended the First Environmental Journalism Course conducted by the International Institute for Journalism in Berlin in 1990, which gave him the opportunity to report on the developments after the fall of the Berlin wall and the reunification of West Germany and East Germany. He has been writing political column,'Visheshalprathi' in Mathrubhumi Daily since 1995 March, in the pen name Indran. Two volumes of selected articles from the column were published, one in 2002 and the second in 2011.He has written many books and porminet are Mathilillaatha germaniyil , Visheshalprathi , Fourth estatinte maranam , Maarunna maadhyamam, maarunna maadhyamalokam, Pathram dharmam niyamam , Veendum visheshalprati and Bengal chila apriya sathyangal. Rajendran was President of The Kerala Union for Journalists Union during 1997-99. He served as Vice Chairman of Kerala Press Academy during 1999-2001. He was President of Calicut Press Club (2004-2006) and Chairman of the governing Committee of the Institute of Communication and Journalism, Calicut.
