THAKAZHI'S WIFE KATHA PASSED AWAY

Thakazhi's wife Katha passed away

Katha, wife of Janapith laureate Thakzhi Sivasankara Pillai, passed away  on Wednesday, 1ST,June,2011, at a private hospital. She was 91. She was admitted in the hospital for respiratory problems. Thakazhi married Katha alias Kamalakshiamma on September 15, 1934. They started their life in Padaharam Areepurath House in Thakazhi and later shifted to Sankaramangalam. Thakazhi in his autobiography 'Oramyudetheerangalil' wrote about Katha. 'She was a typical village girl. She never had complaints. She always does all household works and my mother got good rest. I never enquired whether she had any dreams. May be not. May be she had, but might have lived oppressing all those.'

     Thakazhi said Katha never intervened in his literary life. Sometimes she read books when they get published and sometimes she expresses her opinions too. He said he would have been shattered if his wife too was a literary person. Thakazhi passed away on April 10, 1999. Later the government took over Sankaramangalam as Thakazhi memorial. Katha was living there for a monthly rent of Rs 1. Her cremation would be held on Thursday afternoon.
