TRIBUTE PAID TO RENOWNED PHYSICIST DR.EC SUDARSHAN

E C G Sudarshan as recommended for the Nobel Prize 9 times Sudarshan specialised in Quantum Optics and linked Vedanta with modern physicsChief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan offered his condolences to his familyEnnackal Chandy George Sudarshan, professor at the Texas University and acclaimed scientist, passed away in Texas on Monday morning.The renowned physicist E C G Sudarshan, who proved Albert Einstein wrong, was recommended for the Nobel Prize nine times but never awarded.

The 86-year-old physicist was born in Kottayam on September 16, 1931. Sudarshan specialised in Quantum Optics and linked Vedanta with modern physics. He has proved Albert Einsteins theory on the speed of light was wrong as tachyon can move faster than light.Einstein showed that it is impossible for particles (or space ships) to be accelerated up to or beyond the speed of light because of the infinite energy required. Sudarshan and his colleagues suggested, however, that if particles were created initially with faster-than-light speed in particle collisions no acceleration or infinite energy would be necessary -- something not possible for space ships.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan offered his condolences to the family.Dr E C G Sudarshan was great son of Kerala and made great. contributions to modern Physics. He was a philosopher and a physicist. His death is a great loss for Kerala and world of science, Vijayan told India Today.Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said E C G Sudarshan was pride of Kerala and always close to his homeland.Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy expressed his shock over the demise of great physicist, who tagged Kerala with his discoveries.His contributions to Physics and world of Science will be remembered forever. Unfortunately, he was not awarded Nobel prize for Physics, Chandy said.

സൈദ്ധാന്തികഭൗതികത്തില് വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകള് നല്കിയ ഗവേഷകനാണ് സുദര്ശന്. ഓസ്റ്റിന് (ടെക്സാസ്): ലോക പ്രശസ്ത ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞന് ഇ സി ജോര്ജ്  സുദര്ശന്(86) അന്തരിച്ചു. ഇന്നു പുലര്ച്ചെ അമേരിക്കയിലെ ടെക്സാസിലായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. സൈദ്ധാന്തികഭൗതികത്തില് വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകള് നല്കിയ ഗവേഷകനാണ് സുദര്ശന്. ഒന്പത് തവണ നൊബേല് സമ്മാനത്തിന് പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെട്ടെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ആ ബഹുമതി നല്കാതിരുന്നത് ഏറെ ചര്ച്ചചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു

റോച്ചസ്റ്റര് സര്വകലാശാലയില് റോബര്ട്ട് മാര്ഷാക്കുമായി ചേര്ന്ന് സുദര്ശന് രൂപംനല്കിയ 'വി മൈനസ് എ' സിദ്ധാന്തമാണ് ക്ഷീണബലരഹസ്യത്തിന്റെ താക്കോലായി മാറിയത്. ക്വാണ്ടം പ്രകാശീയത (ക്വാണ്ടം ഓപ്റ്റിക്സ്) എന്ന പഠനശാഖയ്ക്ക് 1960 കളില് അടിത്തറിയിട്ടതിലെ പ്രധാനിയും ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ്.

പ്രകാശത്തെക്കാള് വേഗത്തില് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്ന ടാക്യോണുകളെന്ന സൈദ്ധാന്തിക കണങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും സുദര്ശന് പ്രവചനം നടത്തി. ക്വാണ്ടംവ്യൂഹങ്ങളെ തുടര്ച്ചയായി നിരീക്ഷിച്ചാല് എന്തുസംഭവിക്കും എന്നകാര്യം പരിഗണിക്കുന്ന 'ക്വാണ്ടം സെനോ ഇഫക്ട്' ആണ് സുദര്ശന്റെ മറ്റൊരു സംഭാവന.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ പള്ളത്ത് എണ്ണയ്ക്കല് തറവാട്ടില് ഇ ഐ ചാണ്ടിയുടെയും അച്ചാമ്മയുടെയും മകനായി 1931 സെപ്റ്റംബര് പതിനാറിനാണ് സുദര്ശന് ജനിച്ചത്. ഒമ്പതു തവണ നോബേല് പുരസ്കാരത്തിന് നാമനിര്ദേശം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പത്മഭൂഷണ്(1976), പത്മവിഭൂഷണ്(2007) എന്നിവ നല്കി രാജ്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആദരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഭാമതിയാണ് ഭാര്യ. മൂന്നുമക്കളുണ്ട്.
