Dozens of Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israel on Monday in Gaza as dignitaries convened in Jerusalem for the highly anticipated official opening of the U.S. embassy. At 4:00 P.M., the opening ceremony of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem began at the American consulate in the Arnona neighborhood, which is now the official U.S. Embassy.Meanwhile, Palestinians throughout the West Bank and Jerusalem were urged to turn out en masse to protest the embassy move and take part in Tuesday's 70th anniversary of the Nakba, or “catastrophe,” as Palestinians term Israel’s creation. Tens of thousands of Palestinians marched on the border with Gaza.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas ordered a meeting of the Palestinian leadership council, the PLO acting committee and the Fatah central committee to discuss the situation in Gaza. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's spokesman said on Monday that the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem would create incitement and instability in the region and ruled out Washington as being a mediator for Middle East peace. "With this step, the U.S. administration has cancelled its role in the peace process and has insulted the world, the Palestinian people and the Arab and the Islamic nation and it has created incitement and instability," said Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeineh. : ജറുസലേമില് തിങ്കളാഴ്ച തുറന്ന യു.എസ് എംബസിക്കെതിരെ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ച പലസ്തീന്കാര്ക്കുനേരെ സുരക്ഷാ സൈനികര് നടത്തിയ വെടിവെപ്പില് 41 പേര് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു. നിരവധി പേര്ക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇസ്രയേലിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായി ജറുസലേമിനെ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു  ജറുസലേമില് യു.എസ് എംബസി തുറന്നത്. വെടിവെപ്പില് ഏകദേശം 1300 ഓളം പേര്ക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടവര് അറിയിച്ചു.

തിങ്കളാഴ്ച തീരപ്രദേശത്ത് തടിച്ച് കൂടിയ ജനങ്ങള് ഇസ്രയേല് സൈന്യത്തിന് നേരെ കല്ലുകളും, ബോംബുകളും എറിയുകയായിരുന്നു. ടയറുകള്ക്ക് തീയിട്ട് ആകാശത്തേക്ക് ശക്തമായ പുകപ്രവാഹവും നടത്തി. തുടര്ന്ന് സൈന്യം കണ്ണീര് വാതക പ്രയോഗം നടത്തുകയും, വെടിവെക്കുകയുമായിരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ജറുസലേമില് യു.എസ് എംബസി തുറക്കുന്നതിന് തൊട്ടുമുന്നെയാണ് വെടിവെപ്പുണ്ടായത്. എംബസി തുറക്കുന്നതിനെതിരെ ഗ്രേറ്റ് മാര്ച്ച് ഓഫ് റിട്ടേണ് എന്ന പേരില് ഇസ്രയേല് അതിര്ത്തിയില് സമരക്കാര് മാര്ച്ച് 30 മുതല് പ്രതിഷേധം നടത്തിവരികയായിരുന്നു. ഇവരുടെ പ്രതിഷേധം അവഗണിച്ചായിരുന്നു എംബസി തുറക്കല്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ഡിസംബറിലായിരുന്നു ഇസ്രയേലിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായി ജറുസലേമിനെ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നുവെന്ന് യു.എസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഡൊണാള്ഡ് ട്രംപ് അറിയിച്ചത്. യു.എസ് നീക്കം ലോക നേതാക്കളില് അടക്കം വലിയ പ്രതിഷേധങ്ങള്ക്ക് കാരണമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. യുഎസ് അംബാസഡര് ഡേവിഡ് ഫ്രൈഡ്മാന് ആണ് എംബസി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തത്. യുഎസില് നിന്നുള്ള ഉന്നത ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ സംഘവും ഇസ്രയേല് നേതാക്കളും ചടങ്ങില് സംബന്ധിച്ചു.
