MASJID SALUTES KAMALA SURAYYA’S MEMORIES
മലയാളത്തിന്റെ പ്രിയ കവയിത്രിയുടെ പേരില്‍ കൊല്ലത്തൊരു പള്ളി: ‘കമലാ സുരയ്യ
Madhavikkutty (Kamala
Surayya), the poet who longed for eternal life that she expressed through her
restless words, has a mosque in Kollam named after her, thus making her
eternal. The only mosque in the State
ever to bear the name of a Keralite woman, the Kamala Surayya Masjid, was built
by an ardent fan of hers – Abdul Rahman. As Malayalam literature remembers
Kamala Surayya on her eighth death anniversary, Abdul Rahman remembers paying
his last respects when her body was brought to Kollam – the only time he met
her. “My relationship with Surayya lasted for over 15 years when I contacted her
and invited her to inaugurate a purdah shop run by me. Though she did not turn
up, we were in touch often,” Abdul Rahman says. 
One of the books Mr.
Rahman likes the most is ‘Neermathalam Pootha Kalam’ in which he finds the
spiritual quest in her. “The book has lines pointing at her longing for an
eternal life, he says”. “She even
discussed her plans to launch a political party, which I discouraged pointing
out examples from history and saying that she would be isolated by her own
followers,” he remembers. “It was six
years back that I decided to turn my house in the beach road into a mosque, for
which I gave the name ‘Kamala Surayya Masjid’ with an intention to make her
name be remembered. I have also started a book stall in her name after seeking
permission from her son to which he agreed wholeheartedly.”Hailing from ‘Hafiz
Darul Ameen’ at Ayathil in Kollam, Abdul Rahman has also started a charitable
society in the name of Surayya to help the needy. A Quran college also
functions in the two-storied building of the Masjid giving accommodation to as
many as 20 students. Mr. Rahman is also unhappy on the controversies on the
content of Surayya’s writings. “She always used to talk very affectionately
even with strangers, which was badly portrayed by those with really bad
intentions. She earned respect from everyone she met,” he says.

സത്യസന്ധതയും പുലര്‍ത്തിയ സുരയ്യയുടെ ഓര്‍മകള്‍ നിലനിര്‍ത്താനായി പള്ളി നിര്‍മിച്ചത്
കൊല്ലം സ്വദേശി അബ്ദുല്‍ റഹ്മാനാണ്.ആറ് വര്‍ഷം മുമ്പാണ് അബ്ദുല്‍ റഹ്മാന്‍ കൊല്ലം ബീച്ച്
റോഡിലുള്ള തന്റെ വീട്, മലയാളത്തിന്റെ മഹാകവയത്രി ലോകം അവരെ എന്നും സ്മരിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തില്‍
പള്ളിയാക്കി മാറ്റിയത്.
പതിനഞ്ച് വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്
മുമ്പാണ് കമലാ സുരയ്യയുമായുള്ള അബ്ദുറഹ്മാന്റെ സൗഹൃദം തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. തന്റെ പുതിയ പര്‍ദ്ദ
ഷോപ്പിന്റെ ഉദ്ഘാടനത്തിന് വിളിക്കാനാണ് ആദ്യം ഫോണില്‍ വിളിക്കുന്നത്. പക്ഷേ, അന്ന്
അവര്‍ക്ക് വരാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല . നേരിട്ട് കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത അബ്ദുല്‍ റഹ്മാന്‍ സുരയ്യയെ
ആദ്യമായും അവസാനമായും കാണുന്നത് ഭൗതിക ശരീരം കൊല്ലത്ത് കൊണ്ടു വന്നപ്പോഴാണ്.റഹ്മാന്‍
സുരയ്യയുമായി സൗഹൃദം തുടങ്ങിയ സമയം അവര്‍ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ പ്രവേശിക്കാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിച്ച
കാലമായിരുന്നു. മുന്‍കാലങ്ങളില്‍ അവര്‍ക്കുണ്ടായ ഒറ്റപ്പെടല്‍ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി താന്‍
ഈ തീരുമാനത്തെ നിരുത്സാഹപെടുത്തിയെന്ന് റഹ്മാന്‍ പറയുന്നു..കമലാ സുരയ്യയുടെ മകന്‍ എം.ഡി
നാലപ്പാട്ടിന്റെ പൂര്‍ണ സമ്മതത്തോടുകൂടി റഹ്മാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ ബുക്ക്സ്റ്റാളിനും കമലാസുരയ്യയുടെ
പേര് നല്‍കി. കൂടാതെ കൊല്ലത്ത് അയത്തില്‍ ഹാഫിസ് ദാറുല്‍ അമാന്‍ എന്ന പേരോട് കൂടി ഒരു
ആതുര സേവന കേന്ദ്രവും ഇതോടൊപ്പം തുടങ്ങി. പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടപെട്ട
പുസ്തകം നീര്‍മാതളം പൂത്ത കാലമാണെന്ന് റഹ്മാന്‍ പറയുന്നു.
