GOPI’S 80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS IN THRISSUR
കലാമണ്ഡലം ഗോപിയുടെ 80-ാം പിറന്നാള്
The 80th birthday celebrations of the
living legend of Kathakali, Kalamandalam Gopi, will be held in Thrissur from
June 1 to 4. The art fraternity in the country, his followers and people from
different walks of life will come together to honour the maestro at the
celebrations titled ‘Haritham.’Kalamandalam Gopi is known for using his facial
contours and physique to draw vivid pantheon of mythical and legendary
characters.Korambath Gopinathan, general convener of Haritham Asheethi Pranam
Nirvahana Samithi, said Gopi’s artistic life spanning over six decades was the
story of a golden period of Kathakali.
Eminent percussionist Peruvanam Kuttan
Marar & Party will open the programme with a ‘Keli’ at the Regional Theatre
on June 1. The programme will be inaugurated by artist Namboothiri. The first
day’s programme will begin with ‘Thodayam’ by Kalamandalam Kathakali students.
This will be followed by a Kathakali performance by the students.The second day
will begin with a ‘Panchavadyam” by Triprayar Rameshan & Party and a Guru
Vandanam’ by Aswathi V. Nair.The third day’s programme will be held at the LULU
Convention Centre during the day and will begin with Panchamaddalakeli by Kalamandalam
Kutty Narayanan & Party. This will be followed by a seminar on ‘Padma Shri
Kalamandalam Gopi – Kalariyum Arangum’ with sessions by noted scholars and
practitioners.The evening programme will be held at the Regional Theatre and
will include Kathakali performances ‘Nalacharitham’ and ‘Dakshayaagam’.കളിയരങ്ങിന്റെ വിസ്മയാചാര്യന് പത്മശ്രീ കലാമണ്ഡലംഗോപിയുടെ 80ാം പിറന്നാള് ആഘോഷങ്ങള്ക്ക് സാംസ്കാരിക നഗരിയില് തിരിതെളിഞ്ഞു.
